Year 1 complete.

I almost cried this morning when you touched me

but not because I don't want you

or that you make me feel unsafe like others have.

The truth is I am wholly myself when you're here

and every touch has a start and an end.

Year 1 complete.

Fingers interlaced,

our hearts reach out to each other through skin.

Well done us: a whole year.

You have boldly gone where no man has gone before.

This is unknown territory:

it's impossible to predict the next step.

Year 1 complete.

My neck has become a heartbeat.

These eyes won't stay still.

I have to take in all of you.

You're my meditation app, my yoga retreat.

You're the missing piece to my jigsaw brain.

Year 1 complete.

I think of starting a project:

a poem a year, or something similar

as I always do with things.

I carve them up into controlled ideas

so they can't run away.

Year 1 complete.

It's been quite a year, hasn't it?

living most of it 5,790 miles apart

and now only half a metre.

Lucky me, lucky me, lucky me.

I keep on pinching myself.

But you're real and I can touch you

and I do deserve this.

Year 1 complete.

Now for Year 2.
