I don’t deserve you.
I think perhaps if I loved you
ceaselessly
unrequitedly
painfully
for a year then I might.
I hesitate.
But it is not because I hesitate
that I don't deserve you.
But what is the point
in talking about deserving?
People rarely get things because they deserve them,
least of all because they earn them.
Would I want you more if you wanted me less?
It’s hard to tell.
Perhaps I do deserve
for you to be with someone else:
you certainly do.
