Lifeboat

My skin feels warm again with the smell of you on it. It is flushed like sunset from your love. I ache joyously because the typhoon has passed - or has been delayed and once more there is calm.

I have been across the sea from you

for too long.

I had forgotten what it was like

to be above water

to breathe knowing when I will take my next one.

Swimming has never been so easy.

For these past six months

I have had to find my own likeness reflected in the water’s ripples. But now I see you. Your lips return my smile. Your irises glimmer with love. I see you: my lifeboat, my waves.
